Saskia Boelsums’ Dutch heritage shines through in her work. She feels a strong kinship with the traditional Dutch landscape painters from the seventeenth century, with their heavy palettes and baroque detailing. Yet the beauty in her work is simultaneously threatening. We see dramatic cloud formations, in weather conditions that are becoming increasingly extreme. It is as if the classical landscape is gradually being replaced by landscapes and skies in which the effects of climate change are visible.
Saskia Boelsums (Netherlands, 1960) spent her childhood in Iran and Curaçao. She later studied Graphic and Spatial Design at the Minerva Art Academy in Groningen. Since 2013, she has been focusing fully on photography, resulting in a multitude of prizes and exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad.
