Adriaan Monshouwer (1951) initially started his career in the film business, but in 1983 switches to photography when he becomes the new art director for Nieuwe Revu, a Dutch magazine. Later positions include director of the Canon Photo Gallery and of the Netherlands Photo Institute, manager Design & Communications at Wolters-Noordhoff and commercial director of photo agency Hollandse Hoogte.
For twelve years, Monshouwer was board member for World Press Photo and was for many years associated with Burafo (copyright). He gave numerous lectures and presentations and was involved in the launch of Times magazine. As an independent consultant he worked for Canon Europe, Dutch regional and national newspapers, the city of Amsterdam, Media Partners, VNU, Sanoma Men's Magazine Foundation and the Visual Art Foundation Amsterdam. At the end of 2009, he founded Picture Inside, a consultancy firm for users of photography.
