Guided Tour by Judith Quax

Photographer in Land

During the festival Judith Quax is showing a part of her long-term multimedia project Immigration Clandestine. In it she presents a picture of  'ndeupe', an animistic ritual of the Lebou tribe in Senegal. In this ritual women dance to the ecstatic beat of drums, to enter into contact with the spirit world. Many fishermen from Senegal have met death trying to reach Europe in search of a better life. They leave behind their wives, who use the ritual as a means of filling the void and avert misfortune.
