Impression / Wonderland
The largest photofestival in the Netherlands shaped the city and province of Groningen for the sixth time into photo territory, in which the number of exhibitions was even larger than ever.
The festival consisted of:
- An international thematic main exhibition titled 'Wonderland', featuring 30 artists. 'Wonderland' was be presented at the 'Der Aa-Kerk', an old church in the centre of the city of Groningen. Click here of a description of 'Wonderland' including an overview of photographers.
- The 'Korenbeurs' is a monumental building, situated right next to the Der Aa-Kerk. This location was part of Noorderlicht for the first time. Here exhibitions were presented by many Dutch photographers, four German Photographers and one English photographer.
- 33 Photo-exhibitions in galleries, musea and related locations. The program was divided into two parts: exhibitions in the city of Groningen and in the province of Groningen. All locations curated their exhibitions themselves.
- An 'open podium' of 34 photo-exhibitions in which mainly regional (amateur-)photographers showcased their work, at their own initiative.
- An activity program with several lectures, workshops and more.
During Noorderlicht several publications were released, among which a special photobook on 'Wonderland', an extensive catalog for the gallery exhibitions, a magazine on the Korenbeurs and a CD-ROM containing presentations for all exhibitions.
Some 100 individual photographic presentations are offered here at the site, with lots of additional information.

Korenbeurs
The 'Korenbeurs' is a monumental location, situated in the heart of the city right next to the 'Der Aa-Kerk' where the main exhibition is held. In 1999, Noorderlicht for the first time also offers presentation in the Korenbeurs, making it the second main location of Noorderlicht. Independent series by many Dutch photographers, four German photographers and one British photographer will be shown. Diversity and actuality are paramount in this exhibition, offering a captivating contrast with the main exhibition 'Wonderland'.
