Overview exhibitions since 1996
The Noorderlicht Photogallery is a permanent exhibition space for photography that is not afraid to cross boundaries, be they national or genre, to tell its story. Through the gallery Noorderlicht seeks to offer a platform for young local talent, but also bring idiosyncratic masters from The Netherlands and other countries to the attention of a wider audience. Those exhibited have ranged from local heroes like Mathieu Keuter and Arnoud Bakker, to international celebrities like like Abbas, Anders Petersen and Kiyoshi Suzuki. Moreover, the gallery functions as a laboratory for the annual photo festivals.
Since 2005 the gallery has been located in a building designated as an architectural monument in the heart of the city of Groningen. It is a stone's throw from the Grote Markt and the Groninger Museum, looking out on the Der Aa-Kerk, itself traditionally the main location for the Groningen edition of the Noorderlicht International Photofestival.
