Since the beginning of the new millennium, more than half the world's population lives in cities. What has been the cost of this shift for rural areas? Land takes stock of what remains of traditional country life in a time of depopulation and a rising median age, of neglect and global mass production. Through the work of photographers from all corners of the world, Land presents a poignant image of worldwide economic, cultural and ecological degradation.
In 2010 and 2011 the Noorderlicht International Photofestival focuses on the consequences of urbanisation, both for the cities and for rural areas. Land is the first part of this diptych.
