Gerritsen made safaris through Central and East Africa to photograph nature and the animals in nature reserves. He photographs the animals close-up, creating an image of their daily life: lions in flight from an approaching elephant, birds hanging onto thin branches, hyenas bathing in a pool of rain. In addition, he made panoramic photos of the expansive landscape.
