Eldon Garnet (Canada, b.1946), who in addition to being a photographer is a successful sculptor and writer, stages "stills" photographed close up, which summon up strong associations with scenes from a horror film. It was not by chance that several of his photographs were also selected for the exhibition devoted to the work of film director Alfred Hitchcock, seen this summer at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. With their composed character and splendid colour they appeal to our ideals of beauty, but the reality/unreality that he creates is that of a nightmare.
