Photos by the Groningen press and advertising photographer Piet Boonstra (b. 1917), made between 1948 and 1975, from the negative archive that has been housed in the collection of the Groningen Archives since 1988. Boonstra worked for various daily papers, and among other work produced business reportages on Groningen shipyards and the Clichéfabriek Noord Nederland. In his cityscapes and interiors, one can see how residents of Groningen lived in the postwar years, and how the northern cities and villages grew apace.
