Sara Blokland studied theatre design and photography at the Rietveld Academy. In "Fam.," a project about her own family, the two disciplines come together. In her photographs each family member plays a theatrical role in his or her surroundings; the poses are stage-directed. Because everybody is photographed individually, it is not immediately clear what the relationships among them are. Yet she has been able to give the viewer access to her intimate family world as a voyeur.
