Cockroaches. Perhaps they are not mankind's worst enemy, but certainly they are one of the most loathed insects. They penetrate our houses and make them their own. When in the distant future people have disappeared from earth, it is expected they will still be around. Philippe Calandre (France, b. 1964) lets us see eye to eye with cockroaches. In his photographs he blows the insects up into huge monsters with enormous mandibles and long antennae on their terrifying heads. Man will feel insignificant next to these images.
