The American photographer Steve McCurry recently drew worldwide attention when, after seventeen years, he found Sharbat Gula again, the Afghan girl with the piercing green eyes who once graced the cover of National Geographic. The series 'South Southeast' is comprised of recent work, but the famous photographs of Sharbat Gula are there too. McCurry (b. 1950) works for the National Geographic Society and the famous Magnum photo agency.
