In early June about 40 residents of the island of Terschelling gave a performance directed by an international group of seven choreographers under the leadership of the Belgian Christine de Smedt. It was a play without words on the beach of Terschelling, near milepost 8, with a backdrop of space, sky and ever-shifting evening light. They created a melancholy production with tiny movements and vivid staging. But light played the lead role: clear light, hard light, back light and theatrical light. Willy van der Meer (b. 1955) collected her own images and experiences there. The photographs are printed as polymer gravures, photographs with the texture of etchings and a warm skin. |
