The installation 'Mari(a)coontjes' by Arnoud Bakker is a museum-like curiosity cabinet of Marian icons and animals in formaldehyde. The most important themes in this work are the idolisation of the ideal woman and the anxiety for losing contact with the past. Here Bakker visualises how, in today's future-oriented society that strives for perfection, we will often grimly hold onto our memories and seek to keep them intact. |
