Over the coming six months the Centre for Visual Arts is organising various activities around the theme 'Art Lives'. During Noorderlicht the Centre presents photographers who approach the residential environment from various angles. Bart Sorgedrager followed six households over a year during their move to the new Vinex residential neighbourhood Leidsche Rijn. The book which came out of this, 'Villa Vinex' (2001) is a portrait of Dutch domestic culture in our time. Paul Koenen shows a selection from the series 'Refrigerators Mexico City', in which he did portraits of residents of this metropolis in their homes. Olga Overbeek makes apparently ordinary objects and unimportant places in homes important and special. Johannes Schwartz shows works from the bizarre series 'Living Rooms of the Blind, Reproductions of Curtain Catalogues and Vases'.
