In days gone by, having your photograph taken was a serious occasion. Anna van Kooij is greatly fascinated by the stiffness of antique photo portraits. In her work 'Dialogue' she creates a dialogue between the past and present by reconstructing old black and white portrait photographs or using them as sources of inspiration for a totally new colour image. Despite the formality imposed on them, her sitters still reveal their unique personalities. Peter Smith's exhibition 'In each case different!' connects with this. He works as a portrait and interior photographer for various magazines. His great passion however is for surrealist photography. His unreal landscapes appear to have been constructed with the aid of a computer, but they have been created with old-fashioned techniques such as double exposure, masking and model making.
