Photography of the nude has been around almost as long as photography itself. Intended as study material for artists, or sold under the counter as naughty pictures, nude photography grew into an autonomous application in commercial glossy magazines and calendars. One of the best known publications of this sort is the Pirelli calendar. Twelve members of the collective Zilverwerk have tackled this phenomenon and come up with an alternative Pirelli calendar.

Zilverwerk existed from 1997 to 1999 as a collective of north Dutch photographers. After a break of three years the present Zilverwerk consists of thirteen photographers who are presently spread all over The Netherlands, and even live and work in other countries. From time to time they unite on thematic projects that result in limited edition collective works.

A survey is to be found on www.zilverwerk.com.

Participating photographers: René Alberts, Hidde Beekman, Regina Broersma, Brul®, Imka Buurke, Paula Cramer, Paul Hondtong, Agnes Kappert, Jolanthe Lalkens, Susan Schuls, Marco Wiegers, Paul Zijlstra.
