The Amsterdam freelance photographer Anke Teunissen is fascinated by people in unusual situations and has often been inspired by the area in which she grew up, the countryside of Drenthe. The theme of unusual villagers reached high point for the present in Teunissen's graduation project at the Royal Academy in The Hague, Men Under Mother's Wings (2000), on adult men who still live with their mothers. Her latest project is called Stay-at-Homes, and is about men who have never left their parents' house, not even after the death of their mother. Presently she is at work together with director Juul Bovenberg on a short film about two elderly stay-at-homes in a Drenthe village. Between 2000 and 2002 Teunissen was an assistant to Eva Besnyö.
