His latest book, Onredelijkheid (De Bezige Bij), is a plea for social space for personal identity, in which religion can also play an important role. A politics that is rooted in the Enlightenment will both recognize and have to accept that this identity is far from always founded on rationality. Heijne once again reveals himself as a sharp and engaged critic with a philosophical slant.
This new book will be launched in the Der Aa-kerk, where Coen Simon, an author and writer in various publications including Trouw and Filosofie Magazine, will interview Bas Heijne regarding his latest volume. You will have an opportunity to acquire a signed copy at this presentation.
Bas Heijne acquired his reputation in The Netherlands as a writer, columnist and translator. In addition to novels and collections of short stories, he has published several collections of essays, including De wijde wereld (2000, nominated for the AKO Literature Prize) and De werkelijkheid (2004). Since 1991 he has been involved with the NRC Handelsblad, producing op-ed articles.
