The story of the late Joy Division singer Ian Curtis's life, from the band's rise to fame to his suicide in 1980. Curtis (Riley) marries young to girlfriend Debbie (Morton) and they have a baby. Increasingly disturbed by bouts of epilepsy, facing pressure from Joy Division's growing success, and wracked by guilt over his affair with a beautiful Belgian fan (Downfall's Lara), Curtis takes a permanent escape from his troubles.
