INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMME
For professionals from the photographic community Noorderlicht has organized a curators meeting and euroclasses. Information on these activities can be found in the submenu: curators and euroclasses.
Since Noorderlicht organized its first photo festival in 1990, photography has changed on many fronts internationally. Digitization and the internet unleashed a revolution in image production, distribution and consumption. The acceptance of the medium in the visual arts bestowed a new status on photography which has been reflected in the increased number of locations for its presentation, varying from galleries to museums to festivals, not only here in The Netherlands but worldwide. In part as a consequence of this, the character and use of photography itself has changed. The boundaries between the classic genres have been erased: documentary styles infiltrate advertising, advertising techniques surface in art, and art in documentary. They are all facets of one visual culture that has developed ever more fruitfully over the course of the years.
Within the light of this situation, Noorderlicht has organizes a curators meeting in which the topic will be addressed. The euroclasses, aimed at photography students and recently graduated photographers from the Netherlands and Europe, will inevitably deal with the new situation from a more practical point of view. |
