Portraits of Women: Really beautiful
Together with the writer Wieke de Haan the photographer Elske Riemersma produced the book Echt mooi (Dutch edition) / Echt moai (Frisian edition) on inner beauty and strength.
The prevailing visual culture is based on stereotypes, in which the accent for women increasingly lies on outward beauty and ways to perfect it. With her portraits Riemersma reveals another image of femininity with all its wrinkles and imperfections: the face of womankind in all its naturalness, vulnerable and powerful at the same time.
