Central in the work of Pablo Ortiz Monasterio (1952) is movement in time and place. To achieve this past and present are vital. The past of a future is hereby created. Ortiz Monasterio tries to unify this future by bringing symbols from different periods and cultures together. Photographs are put together in a collage and moulded into a form that is often symbolic. On the one hand the images serve as documents in this series, but on the other hand they serve as monuments. The non-existing is shown, time and space are united. Monasterio appears to want to form a collective history of the world; science-fiction archeology. |
