For the 1996 Groningen photography-assignment Ellen Kooi (1962) took a series of photographs in falling dusk, the hours 'entre chien et loup', (betweem the dog and the wolf) as the French say. A time when composure, daily level-headedness and decency could disappear. Kooi reinforces the fictionality of dusk by modest use of artificial lighting. The places chosen were lesser known places in the city: a street corner, an embankment, a garage square. Ordinairy citizens figure in the situations. Perhaps one person acts unusually. Apart from these works, Kooi also exhibits part of a series she produced for the exhibition 'Passion along the 11 towns', which was exhibited at the Fries Museum in Leeuwarden at the beginning of March. |
