The Garden of Eden is the result of a series of portraits of Groningen artists published in the last three years by the makers. Starting point is a short and intense contact with the portrayed artist that the spectator experiences. Gertjan Aalders (1955) listened with awe to the stories of his interview partners to catch a glimpse of their artistic inner world. In her work Antoinette Borchert (1958) reduces the portayed person to art's main feature: a single subtle line, a candidly depicted emotion. In Gallerie Noord, the portraits have been 'brought to life', but this time in series and in an appropriate layout. The exhibition shows an extensive, contemporary selection of artistic desires and emotions of 27 artists, of town views of Groningen working on and in their own Garden of Eden night and day, year after year.
