Both the title of the exhibition as well as the work on display can be interpreted in different ways. Is the photographer looking or is the beholder? Perhaps the 'I' from the title is refering to the people portrayed. The image shows what should not be seen, or perhaps even what one does not want to see; primary feelings, emotions, intimacy, personal situations. However, the emotions are placed within a certain context. The recipient secretly embarks upon someone else's territory. This is stimulating; tension, but also recognition or even a sense of of shame can be created. In short: in this exhibition the viewer is a voyeur whose voyeurism, however, is legitimate. In this exhibition work by Arnoud Bakker (1972), Christel Boertjes (1974), Simone Bouwstra (1974), Floor Kuiper (1969), Jolanthe Lalkens (1968) and Marco Wiegers (1973), all recently graduated, can be seen. |
