Visual artist Gerco de Ruijter (1961) experiments with the media film and photography. His work has been exhibited in various art galleries including the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum (1995) and the Centrum voor Hedendaagse Kunst Witte de With (1997) in Rotterdam.
De Ruijter records the world around him by affixing a camera to a kite. These bird's eye view photos offer an unusual impression of the world: they are photos of landscapes in which the horizon, our usual reference point, is missing. This creates an abstraction of the Dutch landscape. Therefore, it often seems as if the photos are related to the art of painitng than to (documantary) photography. Next to showing previously exhibited work De Ruijter also shows some recent photos during Noorderlicht 1997. |
