This series by Anna Beeke (1944) shows a romantic image of big, naked women. The photographs are printed on special (chamois) paper, giving them a nostalgic look. This is intensified by the walnut frames in which the photographs have been placed. The atmosphere evoked is remeniscent of the intimacy of nineteenth century boudoirs, a time when being big was considered beautiful. Despite their physical 'shortcomings', Beeke shows voluptuous women in all their strength. Thus, this series makes a state-ment about the prevailing beauty ideal.
