The installation A Perfect Sculpture consists of a replica of a Greek female nude. This statue respresents the Greek ideal image of women. A video is projected on to the plaster replica, of a woman who is trying to adopt the statue's pose. Maree Blok (1959) and Bas Lugthart (1955) attempt to show that the perfect and lifeless is not compatible to the living and imperfect, as the human body will never fit into the contours of the classical statue and image. Blok and Lugthart consider their work as an expression of a desire for perfection and the realisation that man is in fact imperfect in comparison to the prevailing beauty ideal.
