Froukje Hoekstra teaches at the Academie Minerva in Groningen and at the Vervolgopleiding St. Joost in Breda. She has brought together the series of work of seven young photographers. Hoekstra consciously chose works that wouldn't disrupt the atmosphere of the Synagogue. The Synagogue is still used, and respecting the Jewish community she chose non-provocative works. The photos have a certain calmness about them and share a feeling of quietness and of melancholy.
The works represent three categories, firstly the classical genres like portraits and landscapes. Secondly, social photography, and thirdly, a new, autonomous usage of the photographic image. |
