Van Haaff shows a black and white travel report from a trip to India. He has employed a long shutter time, which makes it seem as if there is movement in the pictures, thus emphasising the magic of the country. The photos give an impression of an optimistic nation that has learned to accept the misfortunes and inadequacies of a poor, overpopulated society.
Koning looks closer to home with her series 'To My Mind,' in which she has taken her youth and future as her starting point. She shows, among other things, portraits in colour of her family, claiming that "the images lie close to myself. In the first part my youth is the main focus point; a small safe world. . . The second part is about the future; unknown and insecure." |
