Nypels photographs church interiors, among other things. The beautiful viewing holes incite associations with painted church interiors from the seventeenth century. The picture has sometimes been turned and the scene has sometimes been photographed form an unexpected angle. The photos reveal part of the hidden treasures in the church, like for example a detail of a painting or sculpture.
Nypels is looking for a strongly personal visual language, wanting to express feelings as far away from thought processes and spoken language as possible. His work examines the possibility of the function of an autonomous visual story as a means of communication. |
