Van Eekelen (1963) spent three months in the Akiyoshidai International Art Village, an Art Village in the South of Japan, which welcomes people of different disciplines to exchange creative activities and ideas. She was fascinated by the differences between Japanese and Western culture. The photos show how Van Eekelen experienced Japan, her bewilderment with the land and culture. With her photos Adrienne van Eekelen wants to show a part of Japanese culture, her own perception of Japan: the lack of understanding between Van Eekelen and the Japanese people she met, their difficult communication, but also her fascination for their culture and traditions.
