Between 1985 and 1995 Goldberg (1953) followed the lives of a few street kids in the United States with his camera, the result of which has been brought together in the book "Raised by Wolves." A selection of the photos in the book can be seen at Noorderlicht this year. One of the youths portrayed wrote the following in a letter to Goldberg: "You show us how we are and let us tell our own story. Young people will only listen if society lets them speak too. Make sure that your work tells true stories, show people that they are not the only ones who matter, and that they do not have the right to categorise kids, for that won't make them disappear. On the contrary, their number will only increase." Goldberg's photos form a bridge between society and the portrayed street kids who live on the edge of it.
