Magnum photographer Steve McCurry (USA, 1950) is a renowned international photojournalist. Over a period of twenty years he regularly visited Southeast Asia. He published the results of those travels in 200, in the book 'South Southeast'. He is drwan to the region by its culture, its colour, its light. As a journey back in time, he senses a continuity there between the present and a distant past.

The photographs by John Gossage (USA, 1946) are from the series 'There and Gone' (1997) and were made at the beach of Tijuana, on the border between Mexico and North-America. 'There and Gone' is a story about illegal immigration. The beach photos are part of the first chapter of that series and were made between 1993 and 1994.
