For Jehsong Baak (South Korea, 1967), photography is principally an emotional medium. He wants to hold on to something of his life and feelings through photographs. That attitude is closely connected with his personal history. Born in South Korea, at an early age he emigrated to America with his father. He would neither see or speak to his mother for 25 years. He had no memories or photographs. 'I lived without roots, imprisoned between cultures.' It made him an outsider and a traveler, always and everywhere in search of a home. He often photographed while wandering through a place at night. 'It is a matter of chance - an encounter, a view, the way light falls. Small moments. That is where happiness is hidden.'

Since 1999 Baak has lived in Paris. In 2005 he publishes his first monograph, under the title 'Ailleurs' (Somewhere else).
